The CNS Leadership Institute is a 12-month program designed to empower neurosurgeons with the practical skills and business acumen needed to engage hospital administrators and lead multidisciplinary teams. The Leadership Institute hosts three cohorts annually—one for early career surgeons, one for mid-career surgeons in, or transitioning to, formal leadership roles, and an executive program tailored to advanced career surgeons in executive leadership roles within healthcare institutions.
The CNS Leadership Institute is a transformative physician leadership program that equips neurosurgeons with the practical skills and business acumen needed to engage hospital administrators and lead multidisciplinary teams. Led by neurosurgeon leaders, administrators, and organizational change management professionals, it combines a structured peer-learning environment with live coursework, mentorship, and applied project work. Participants complete introductory virtual sessions and a leadership strengths assessment, attend a live intensive course in Chicago, then return to apply their learning to individual leadership projects supported by webinars, continued mentorship, and peer networking.

This advanced program is designed for neurosurgical chairs and senior leaders in the field, expanding on the Leadership Institute's foundational lessons in change management and healthcare economics, and focusing specifically on the challenges department and health system leaders face today: strategic leadership, organizational influence, partnership with health system executives, and leading through complexity. Participants learn directly from neurosurgeons who hold leadership roles at the highest levels of academic medicine and health system administration.

**CNS Leadership Institute Fellow** recognizes individuals who have completed all three levels of the CNS Leadership Institute Pathway: **Leadership in Health Care**, **Vanguard Leadership in Health Care**, and **Executive Leadership in Health Care**.
The CNS Leadership Institute offers a uniquely practical and transformative approach to physician leadership for neurosurgeons, combining peer learning, mentorship, leadership strengths assessment, live coursework in Chicago, and continued networking. Across the pathway, participants build skills in change management, service line optimization, culture and influence, mentorship, strategic planning, financial preparedness, and distributed leadership in healthcare.
