The 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER course prepares workers to safely perform duties involving hazardous waste operations, hazardous substance cleanup, treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), and emergency response activities. Throughout the course, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely in hazardous environments through a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and hands-on demonstrations. Topics include hazard recognition, toxicology, chemical compatibility, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protection, site characterization, hazard communication, air monitoring, decontamination procedures, spill response, emergency planning, confined space awareness, lockout/tagout, fire prevention, and incident command principles.
