Description

This certification validates technical competency and operational mastery in conventional metal lathe machinery and precision turning operations. Recipients demonstrate practical proficiency in 3-jaw and 4-jaw chuck workpiece clamping, spindle speed and feed-rate selection, facing, cylindrical turning, thread cutting, tailstock drilling/boring, pre-start safety walk-arounds, interlock chuck guards, and swarf chip management in strict compliance with PUWER 98 and international workshop machine safety standards.

Skills

Workpiece Centering & Chuck Clamping (3-Jaw/4-Jaw)

Spindle RPM & Feed Rate Calibration

Precision Facing, OD Turning & Threading

Tool Post Height & Cutting Insert Setup

PUWER 98 & Machine Guarding Compliance

Pre-Start Inspection & Swarf Handling Safety

Earning Criteria

Participation

Complete the 2-day practical and theoretical training program covering conventional metal lathe mechanics, cutting geometry, spindle gearboxes, and workshop machinery safety protocols under PUWER 98.

Assignment

Demonstrate practical operational control, executing precise workpiece centering, tool height setting, facing, outer diameter turning, and thread pitch cutting without chatter or dimensional tolerances exceeding limits.

Other

Pass the practical pre-start equipment walk-around inspection, verifying interlock chuck guards, lead-screw safety covers, emergency foot-brake response, coolant levels, and chip guard placement.
