Description
comunidad.educacionylenguas.com Project supported but the Hornby Trust This presentation and workshop explored the implementation of learner-centred education (LCE) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) secondary classrooms, with a specific focus on fostering critical thinking (CT) within the context of the City of Buenos Aires curriculum. Drawing on contemporary research and official educational policy, the presentation clarified key theoretical frameworks of critical thinking, including its cognitive skills and affective dispositions, and discussed its relevance as a core 21st-century competency. The workshop component translated theory into practice by engaging participants with a sequence of scaffolded classroom activities designed for lower-secondary EFL learners. These activities integrated intercultural communicative competence with CT development, using authentic, multimodal materials and strategies such as graphic organisers, structured discussions, and reflective questioning. Particular attention was given to adapting these practices to low-proficiency and resource-constrained contexts.
