Description
Program frame: The course is grounded in the six principles of trauma‑informed care—safety, trust and transparency, peer support, collaboration, empowerment/voice/choice, and cultural, historical, and gender awareness—to ensure psychologically safe and empowering learning for women with lived justice involvement. Gender‑responsive design: Content and facilitation consider women’s distinct pathways, needs, and strengths, consistent with NRCJIW guidance on evidence‑based, gender‑responsive practices for improved outcomes. Evidence‑based skills: Cognitive and prosocial skill‑building components are included because CBT‑style thinking‑skills training is associated with meaningful reductions in reoffending when implemented with fidelity. Eight‑week session map Foundations of Safety and Values: Build physical and psychological safety norms and clarify personal values to anchor change. Voice and Story Reframing: Practice empowerment, voice, and choice through narrative re‑authoring exercises. Boundaries and Healthy Relationships: Apply trust, transparency, and collaboration to relationship patterns and support networks. Thinking Skills and Emotion Regulation: Use CBT tools for thought‑behavior links, cognitive reframing, and self‑monitoring that have demonstrated recidivism impact when delivered with quality. Economic Power and Purpose: Gender‑responsive planning for education, employment, and financial stability within community contexts. Rights, Resources, and Navigation: Trauma‑aware connections to services and culturally responsive supports tailored to women’s needs. Community, Mentors, and Peer Support: Build pro‑social ties and mutual aid consistent with trauma‑informed peer‑support principles. The Reclaim Plan: Integrate goals, supports, and accountability structures in a collaborative, empowerment‑focused capstone.
