This 3-hour workshop provided an in-depth look into the history of racist nursery rhymes, games, and other forms of children's entertainment, viewed within the context of chattel slavery and segregation. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the role mass media played in reinforcing harmful stereotypes, examined the current state of the family music and children's entertainment industries, and identified actionable steps to eradicate racism in children's music and entertainment. The session concluded with a brief mindfulness exercise to help process the learned material.
