CIRI, in partnership with top-ranking business school – Rotman School of Management, delivers an in-depth, practical Investor Relations (IR) Certification Program. The Program, which covers all relevant areas of this multi-disciplinary role including capital markets, securities law, regulatory disclosure, accounting, finance, communications, stakeholder relations, ESG, artificial intelligence (AI) and strategy to meet the evolving demands on today’s IR professionals.

The 10-month Program starts with three days of in-person classes at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto. One live online three-hour class is then followed by seven months of online classes. These classes consist of two- to three-hour tutorial to be watched on demand, with assignments to be completed for some lessons and a one-hour live online class to discuss the lesson with the instructor and fellow students, taking place approximately every month. The Program concludes with two days of in-person classes at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto.

Upon successful completion of the Program and exam, individuals will join an exclusive group of IROs with the designation of Certified Professional in Investor Relations (CPIR).

With over 100 individuals having completed the Program, it is becoming the standard for IR professionals in Canada. These individuals have demonstrated their commitment to the transparency and integrity of the Canadian capital markets by advancing their practice of investor relations and the stature of the profession.

To participate in the Program, you must have the following:

  • At least three years investor relations experience*, OR
  • Four years of related experience** and have participated in CIRI’s Essentials of Investor Relations program within the past five years, OR
  • Four years of combined experience in investor relations and a related field** and have participated in CIRI’s Essentials of Investor Relations program within the past five years; AND
  • One professional reference letter, preferably from your current employer.

*Where 50% or more of your time was spent on investor relations.

**Related experience can be from any of the disciplines that make up the role of IR including capital markets, securities law, regulatory disclosure, accounting, finance, communications, ESG and strategy

Candidates must complete the Program and pass a proctored, high-stakes, 3-hour exam after verifying their identity with the proctor. In order to maintain the Certified Professional in Investor Relations (CPIR) designation, designation holders must: - Maintain their membership in CIRI; - Agree to comply with CIRI’s Code of Ethics; and - Complete a minimum of 14 continuing education units (CEUs) within each calendar year.
