AI Agents and the Law: An Introduction (Module 1) is a three-week course that provides participants with a foundation for understanding the emerging legal and policy challenges posed by increasingly autonomous AI systems. Designed for legal and policy professionals, researchers, and others interested in AI governance, the course examines both the technical foundations of AI agents and the legal frameworks that may shape their development and deployment. The module explored four key areas: AI agents, superintelligence, and the alignment problem; the technical foundations and evaluation of AI agents; existing governance mechanisms across the AI agent lifecycle; and the limits of current legal frameworks and emerging approaches to governance. Through lectures and Q&A with experts working at the intersection of AI, law, and technology, participants developed the technical and legal grounding needed to engage with rapidly evolving questions surrounding AI agents and their governance.
