MRI policies and procedures play a critical role in supporting safe, consistent, and defensible patient care practices. However, many MRI departments struggle with documentation that is outdated, overly vague, copied from external sources, or disconnected from actual clinical workflows. In this presentation, Toby Gilk and Kellye Chia will discuss the purpose and value of effective MRI policy documentation, including how policies support decision- making, improve consistency, and strengthen departmental communication. Participants will explore what MRI policies should include, common documentation pitfalls to avoid, and practical strategies for developing policies that align with real-world operations and safety expectations. The session will also feature discussion of common MRI policy “pet peeves,” examples of problematic language, and considerations for creating living documents that can evolve alongside MRI safety practices.
